After completing the first green wall installation at UM Built Environment faculty building (right before the COVID19 lockdown), we were approached to propose a new green wall at the newly named KPPI building as part of its greening initiative. The green wall was to be able to house a self-circulating watering system, which meant designing and installing a tank at the bottom of the wall to keep a certain amount of water for daily watering.
Close coordination was needed within our team consisting of different expertise- GaiaWall system installers, our electrician and plumbing personnel. Extra works included tapping into the existing electrical feeder pillar, hacking out the pebblewash floor (and patching it back with matching finishes) and routing the pipes from a nearby tap point to our green wall tank (complemented with a timeswitch, submersible water pump and ball valve).
It took the team just under 5 days to complete the entire green wall installation with time to spare. As we continue to maintain the plants every month, we're happy to report that they (both plants and the client) are generally happy and thriving!
