Belalang prides itself as an industry player that not only focuses on pushing out green ideas and implementing them in the cities, but also engaging the country's future architects and engineers who are in lecture halls within colleges and universities. Being one of the first of many engagements between Belalang and institutes of higher learning, we first spoke to Dr. Suzaini from the Faculty of Built Environment at the University of Malaya on greening efforts back in 2019. Our efforts came into fruition to inspire the next generation and also to serve as the base for a study on biophillic design and its effects on building occupants/users. Completed right before the COVID-19 pandemic hit, this GaiaWall serves as a case-study on lower maintenance vertical greenery where maintenance is conducted only once a month, and where its irrigation controller is solar-powered.
